As conversations on environment continue to gain momentum among Kenyans, the student fraternity of Moi University led by its president, Peter Chonjela spearheaded a clean-up exercise at Moi Market near the institution. The initiative aimed to ensure the area remains clean and conducive for both the community and the students.
\nThe event which sought to educate members of the public and university students on the importance of maintaining a clean environment and planting of trees, which attracted numerous stakeholders who expressed their willingness to support the group\u2019s growth and future initiatives.
\nChonjela who previously managed a tree nursery for about four years before joining the university to pursue a degree in Political Science, encouraged students to take the lead by planting at least ten seedlings per homestead. He also pledged to donate 2,000 seedlings during the next edition of the event to help achieve the presidential directive on national tree-planting.<\/p>\n\n

\u201cI have come to learn that planting trees is the first step in protecting the environment, but environmental conservation involves much more like cleaning up rivers, collecting litter around you and markets, keeping our surroundings clean,\u201d Chonjela said.
\nParticipants expressed their appreciation thanking the university for providing such a noble opportunity to positively impact surrounding communities.
\nThe clean-up initiative at Moi Market not only strengthened the bond between students and the local community but also underscored the critical role young people play in shaping a sustainable future. With continued collaboration, education and commitment to environmental stewardship such efforts can significantly contribute to a cleaner, greener and more resilient society.
\nEnvironmental conservation remains a rallying call for many nations as they seek ways to curb the escalating effects of climate change on their populations.
