A Community Dream for Kabras Training Institute Takes Shape

What began as a simple idea among a few concerned community members in Kimangโ€™eti is now close to reality. The dream of establishing Kabras Training Institute (TTI) was born out of a growing need to bring quality technical and vocational education closer to the people. The vision started in 2024, by Wellington Mamuti who was the dream carrier. Before the death of Malulu, Mamuti worked closely with Dr. Elisha Nyamu to write a proposal that was later submitted to the TVET department in Nairobi. From there, the long journey of groundwork began a process that has not been easy, but one driven by commitment and hope.

Several individuals stood with the dream from the beginning, including Samuel Maumo, David Songoro, Jason Lutomia, Luke Chekata, Elisha Nyamu, Ford Katembu and Lazarus Savu Kofia. As the idea gained momentum, more stakeholders came on board to help push the vision forward.

The institute is expected to play an important role in uplifting the newly created Kabras East Sub-County following the subdivision of Malava Sub-County. In a major step forward, a community delegation met the President at the State Lodge in Eldoret to present the proposal for the institute. The project received strong support from the area Member of County Assembly (MCA), who initially served as patron.

Support from residents was clearly seen during a public participation meeting held in Kimangโ€™eti, where locals voiced their approval and excitement. During the meeting, the MCA handed over the projectโ€™s patronage to area Member of Parliament David Ndakwa, a move that was warmly welcomed by the community.

Kimangโ€™eti already hosts a youth county polytechnic that helps young people and artisans gain practical skills. The addition of Kabras Training Institute is expected to build on this foundation, open more opportunities for the youth, and contribute to the social and economic growth of the area.
