Has the Church Failed in Mentoring Students Spiritually and Emotionally Despite Sponsoring Most Schools?

This question invites reflection on the role of the Church in the holistic development of students. While the Church sponsors many schools, there is ongoing debate about whether it has effectively fulfilled its spiritual and emotional mentoring responsibilities. Most schools are resuming after the half-term break, and discussions continue on whether the current academic term should be shortened due to the ongoing unrest, pressures from education stakeholders, and other challenges. The longest school terms, often spanning several months, may need to be reduced to alleviate stress on students and staff, especially amid fire unrest and societal pressures. The core issue remains: despite the Church’s sponsorship and influence in many educational institutions, are students receiving sufficient spiritual guidance and emotional support? Or has the focus shifted more towards academic achievement, leaving a gap in mentorship that is vital for their overall well-being?
