Elphas Shalakha Clinches UDA Ticket for West Kabras Ward MCA By-Election

Elphas Shalakha has emerged victorious in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party primaries, securing the party’s ticket for the upcoming West Kabras Ward MCA by-election scheduled for 26 February 2026.

The grassroots UDA nomination exercise was conducted as the party continued its nationwide primaries. Voters in West Kabras Ward, Malava Constituency turned out in large numbers to choose their flagbearer following the election of former MCA David Athman Ndakwa as the Member of Parliament for Malava.

A total of six candidates contested for the ruling party’s ticket. Voting took place across several polling centres within the ward, with results later tallied at Imbiakhalo Church of God, the official UDA tallying centre for West Kabras Ward.

The exercise was peaceful, orderly and transparent, culminating in the declaration of Mr. Shalakha as the winner.

The nomination was witnessed by Hon. David Ndakwa MP, David kivish Mca Manda shivanga, Kevin mahelo and other notable leaders . David Ndakwa praised the residents for their impressive turnout and commended all aspirants for maintaining a competitive yet peaceful democratic process.

Other contestants in the race were Japheth Kalivo, Bramwel Khaemba, Makarios Makwata, Francis Muchika and Edwin Olunga.

With the victory, Mr. Shalakha will now fly the UDA flag in the forthcoming West Kabras Ward MCA by-election.

Elphas Shalakha – 1,550 votes

Japheth Kalivo – 1,027 votes

Makarios Makwata – 577 votes

Bramwel Khaemba – 479 votes

Francis Muchika – 225 votes

Edwin Olunga – 210 votes

Total votes cast: 4,068
