ELVIS NYAMA NDOGOMalava Member of Parliament David Ndakwa cut short his parliamentary retreat in Naivasha today to visit Shamberere Boys High School after a devastating fire destroyed a dormitory on Tuesday night. The fire broke out around 8:50 PM while students were attending evening study sessions. The doom master, who was on patrol, noticed the fire he saw thick smoke coming from one of the dormitory.
The fire destruction displaced 78 students of Grade 10, Form 3 and Form 4 who were using the doom. Although there were no injuries, the students lost everything, Books, learning materials, Mattresses,bedding,personal trunks and clothing. The estimated loss of the fire cost is about KSh 1.8 million.
Ndakwa expressed sympathy to the students, staff,sponcers and the community of shamberere.
“I received a call from the Senior Principal, Laban Sikolia, about the fire. I had to come and see the damage for myself, I promise the people of Malava that we will not only repair the damaged dormitory but also facelift the school and improve other buildings to modernize the schoolโs infrastructure.”
The MP emphasized the need for long-term improvements, pointing out that the school does not have a modern laboratory and enough office space. As an immediate relief, he donated mattresses and blankets to the affected students.
Senior Principal Laban Sikolia thanked the MP for his quick response. He urged well-wishers, donors and the two local sugar factories to help rebuild the dormitory and assist needy students especially the Grade 10 who joined recently to achieve the 100%transition.
After consultation the school will close for a week before resuming studies. The break will help the administration finalize recovery plans before students return to classes on Monday of next week. Investigations into the cause of the fire are still on ongoing
