Elphas Shalakha Cleared to Vie for Kabras West MCA Sea
Hon. Elphas Shalakha has been cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to contest the Kabras West Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat, which became vacant after the former MCA was elected Member of Parliament for Malava.
Shalakha is among seven candidates cleared to contest in the by-election. Shortly after his clearance, he toured Lukume Market the area considered to be stronghold of DAP candidate Musa Neto. Residents accorded Shalakha a warm reception, a sign that political support in the ward remains fluid ahead of the poll.
During his visit, Shalakha held discussions with traders, farmers, youth, and women groups, listening to their concerns and development priorities. Local leaders and residents noted that his engagement with
Grassroots groups has strengthened his support across the ward.
Shalakha outlined his key development priorities, which include improving market facilities, upgrading access roads, supporting small-scale traders, and empowering youth through skills training and economic opportunities. He reiterated his commitment to inclusive leadership, accountability, and working closely with residents to deliver development projects.
Politically, Shalakhaโs candidature has received a boost following indications that ODM leaders in Kakamega County, including the Governor Fernandez barasa Sub-County chairman, has agreed to support his bid despite earlier plans by the party to field a candidate. The move is seen as strengthening his campaign.
Further support from Hon. Gudyne Wafubwa, who had been eyeing the seat on a Ford Kenya ticket and has since pledged to support Shalakha. The endorsement has reshaped the contest, with observers expecting a closely watched race.
Shalakha will face stiff competition from several candidates, including Edward Indimuli (ODM), Bramwel Wasike (DCP), and Nivah Khisa (DAP).
