Malava Member of Parliament has pledged to pay KSh 6,000 bursary for all students enrolled in day secondary schools across Malava Sub-county, in a move aimed at supporting education and easing the burden of school fees on parents.

Speaking during a public participation forum held in kimang’eti to support the construction of Kabras East Technical Training Institute (TTI), which will serve residents of Kabras East Sub-county and neighbouring Nandi County, the MP emphasized the role of education in transforming livelihoods and improving living standards.

Malava Sub-county was divided into two administrative units: Kabras East and Kabras West. Kabras East Sub-county comprises of four wards Chemuche, Kabras East, Butali/Chegulo, and Manda/Shivanga while Kabras West Sub-county consists of three wards: West Kabras, South Kabras, and Mungai/Shivanga.

The MP noted that many parents in the area struggle to raise school fees despite their children’s strong determination to excel academically. He acknowledged the sacrifices parents make to ensure their children remain in school.

Most day secondary schools in Malava charge approximately KSh 9,000 in fees. With the Malava CDF bursary contributing KSh 6,000 per student, parents will experience significant relief. The initiative is expected to reduce the time students spend at home seeking school fees, lower dropout rates, and allow teachers more uninterrupted time with learners.

The Malava MP reiterated that education remains a top priority in his leadership agenda, alongside continued investment in school infrastructure development across the sub-county.

Mr. Ndakwa further revealed that next financial year, he plans to increase bursary allocations to further reduce the financial burden on parents.

“Next financial year, I plan to increase bursaries on education so that every child in my sub-county benefits,” he said.
