The fallout between Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera and Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, which has lasted for over one year and made it difficult for the two leaders to appear together at public events, was finally resolved today in Lugari. The reconciliation took place while Governor Barasa was on a development tour in the constituency.
Their disagreement began during the ODM county elections, where both Nabwera and Barasa claimed victory in the party contest, with each side declaring itself the winner.
During a homecoming ceremony for Nabii Nabwera, a group of G8 members who support him including former Kakamega Governor, the Kakamega Woman Representative, Ikolomani MP, and others leaders pledged to back Nabweraโs bid for the Kakamega gubernatorial seat in the 2032 general election.
The reconciliation comes shortly after the burial of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, an event that was marked by heightened tension between rival camps. There were claims that individuals had been ferried in to disrupt speeches by some leaders, with hired crowds allegedly occupying front seats to gain visibility on camera.
The move also coincides with the day the nation is commemorating the birth of the leader of the opposition and the โPeopleโs President.โ Raila Amollo Odinga who past on November 2025
Speaking during the event, Nabwera said, โFor the sake of the people of Lugari, we will work with our able Governor to bring development to the people. The infighting ends now.โ
