Lwandet DEB Secondary Emerges as New Academic Giant in Matete Sub-County
Lwandet DEB Secondary School has pulled off a stunning academic upscale in the recently released KCSE examinations, emerging as the top-performing school in Matete Sub-County. The school posted a remarkable mean score of 6.22, a significant leap from the 5.22 recorded the previous year.
In a surprising turn of events, Lwandet DEB has overtaken the long-standing academic powerhouse, Kivaywa Boys High School. Kivaywa Boys, traditionally the “giant” of the region, saw its performance dip to a mean score of 5.24, down from its previous mark of 5.88.
Celebrating the victory, Lwandet DEB Principal Mr.ย Jacob Tali Wemisiko ย ย attributed the success to a collaborative “win-win” culture. He extended his gratitude to key stakeholders, including: Area MP Nabii Nabwera for his consistent support, The PTA and Board of Management for their oversight, benchmarking and academic symposia The Teaching Staff, whom he praised for their resilience and dedication to weekend tuition and remedial programs.
The schoolโs stellar performance has triggered a surge in admissions. The Grade 10 (Form One) entry has already reached full capacity, with many students citing the schoolโs upward trajectory as their primary motivation for joining.
However, this growth has brought infrastructure challenges to the forefront. Principal Wafula has issued an appeal to the government and well-wishers for: A School Bus to facilitate student travel and activities, Two Additional Laboratories to ease congestion.
“With the transition to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), a majority of our students will be pursuing STEM pathways, It is imperative that we have the resources to support this population effectively.”
The success at Lwandet DEB mirrors a broader improvement across the region. Matete Sub-County recorded a positive mean deviation of 0.69. The sub-countyโs overall performance improved from a mean score of 4.01 last year to 4.67 this year.
